Rolex Coolness: Mundy Peale
1953 U.S. Air Force Thunderjets
I put up this fascinating 1950s Rolex Datejust ad today because I thought it was fascinating how it contrasts with the post below. In particular, it is fascinating how a 36mm Rolex watch that 55 years ago, is now very popular with the ladies, and of course Rolex recently introduced the all-new 41mm version of the same watch, known as the Datejust II. Wrist watches have only grown over the last 100 years, as have human beings in general.
This ad for Republic Aviation is fascinating in that is discusses how Republic provided the U.S. Air Force with 4500 Thunderjets, and in the not so distant future I will be publishing a mind-boggling Rolex history story that shows how Rolex literally helped the U.S. Air Force Test Pilots push the absolute edge of the envelope with their Rolex GMT-Master watches. This is a piece of exciting, game-changing history you won't find in anywhere else, except on Jake's Rolex World–so stay tuned!!!
Note: In 1953, when this Rolex Ad came out, President Eisenhower had just started his first of two terms as the President of the United States, and he was wearing the exact Rolex Datejust featured in this ad.
